The first documented Aythya hybrid ever for Texel! Found this Tufted Duck x Pochard today at the Horsmeertjes. Also a Cattle Egret in full summer plumage fresh in, only my 3rd ever self found on Texel (~5-10 records per year but very rare only a few years ago)

Unexpectedly stumbled across a little hybrid hub while exploring new ground in North Yorks this week! A locally returning Australian Shelduck x Shelduck and Shelduck pair with 2 ducklings alongside a lonesome Greylag x Canada Goose with 3 goslings. NorthYorksBirdNews Bird Hybrids

The icing on the cake of what was already a thoroughly enjoyable read were two articles on hybrids - the long-staying Mallard x Eider that we’ve featured here a few times and one I hadn’t heard about before, an apparent Blackbird x Fieldfare hybrid in Yorkshire last October.

Neck shape recalls Great White Egret but can we rule out leucistic Grey Heron? Those is one of those birds that I suspect would be easier in life than from photos.

The vagrant American Black Tern in Northumberland has paired up with a male Arctic Tern and is currently sitting on eggs, marking a most unlikely case of hybridisation between the two species: bit.ly/3VMHDBH

This summer, a nature reserve in France has seen its third case of hybridisation between Grey Heron and Little Egret since 2018: bit.ly/4fPC3qa

Well this is niche. Cinnamon Teal x Eurasian/Green-winged Teal hybrid if I’m not mistaken. I’m not a big beer drinker but I’m quite tempted by this one.
