Some of you may recognise Horace, Emily's family dog... here he is out on his walk saying hello (from a distance) to a group of dark-bellied brent geese 🐢 Horace is a very curious chap, so always walks on lead when birds are nearby, but he loves to run wild in a nearby field!

Reasons to love walking... The mental health benefits alone make going for a good stomp worth it. Next time you're out and about why not try really taking in your surroundings... are the trees rustling in the wind, the waves lapping, the birds singing? πŸŒ³πŸΆπŸšΆβ€β™€οΈπŸŒžβ„οΈπŸ₯ΎπŸžπŸ¦†

Our Winter Walking Challenge has officially finished! The final walk was beautiful, what a turnout 🀩 The group walks covered 28.5km, that's more than 40,000 extra steps throughout January πŸ₯Ύ Thanks to everyone who got involved, we hope you enjoyed it as much as we did πŸ˜ŠπŸ¦†β˜€οΈ

Mandarin ducks! Different to the ducks we usually talk about at BARI, but still worth admiring 😍 Although non-native, they don't cause issues to our wildlife as they use different habitat, meaning we can enjoy when they decide to spend some time in Poole Park. πŸ“· Toby Cowell

We're at Hamworthy Park with Dorset Dogs until 2pm chatting about great places to walk and Poole Harbour's incredible bird life. We have goody bags to give out too! πŸΎπŸ¦†πŸ˜„

Last week we joined Poole Communities Trust for their Youth Session at Turlin Moor. The children are helping to create a mural, so we taught them about the epic migrations their local birds undertake, and how they can help them thrive. Then we got creative and made some colourful bird art πŸ‘¨β€πŸŽ¨

Our winter birds are migrating thousands of miles back to their northern homes for the summer, so we're looking back to a few of the best moments from this winter! Tune in next week for number 4...

More wonderful bird art from the young people at Turlin Moor Youth Session with Poole Communities Trust, they're a creative group! Last week we were learning how to draw birds, focusing on the different shaped beaks they have to help them eat different food πŸͺ±πŸ¦πŸŒΏ

We're back with number 4 in our best bird moments from the winter season! Have you ever paused to really look at one of our coastal birds? They're globetrotters with incredible stories you wouldn't expect, and it's pretty cool to think about their exciting lives 🀯

5 best bird moments of the winter season! Number 3 is a showstopper, we always have one eye looking to the horizon for white-tailed eagle. They're amber listed in the UK meaning their numbers have declined and we need to look after them, we're very to have them in our local area!

This weather has us feeling all summery so we're getting into the spirit with some outdoor crafting 🌞 Join us at uptoncountrypark to make and decorate your own pair of binoculars! There's no need to book, just for our table/flag 😊 Children must be supervised at all times.

We keep things pretty light at BARI, but the reality for birds can be harsh. Life in the wild is no easy task! Seeing this bird persevering was inspiring and really shows why giving birds space to feed undisturbed is important when they already have so much working against them.

Amazing to be back with Brenscombe Outdoor Centre for a Wildlife Friendly Watersports session! This is the third year they've booked a session, with a lovely group of new recruits 😊 Thanks to Brenscombe Outdoor Centre for looking after this special place, whilst enjoying it to the max πŸŒŠπŸ€™

We made it to the top spot! Brent geese are familiar to a lot of people around Poole Harbour, and their migrations are incredible! We'll miss them over summer whilst they're in Arctic Siberia for their breeding season, but we can't wait for their arrival at the start of winter πŸ’š

Some lovely birds we've seen recently around Poole Harbour 😍 Enjoying looking at birds and listening to their songs is for everyone, whether you're a full time birder or just like to notice what's around you!

We spotted this one-legged black-tailed godwit last winter feeding along the shoreline in Poole Harbour and have thought about it so many times since. The tenacity and will to live is incredible! Keeping our fingers crossed for its continued survival, and return this winter 🀞
