𝑼𝒑𝒍𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝑹𝒊𝒄𝒆 𝑷𝒓𝒐𝒎𝒐𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏 By championing the adoption of high-yielding, resilient upland rice varieties that grow on dry soil, we help reduce dependence on flooded paddies. This reduces encroachment of the wetlands by rice-growing communities.

𝑺𝒆𝒏𝒔𝒊𝒕𝒊𝒛𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏 𝑪𝒂𝒎𝒑𝒂𝒊𝒈𝒏𝒔 Partnering with local authorities to raise community awareness on wetland conservation through various platforms, including community meetings, media campaigns, and farmer field days. Over 4,500 farmers in Uganda have been trained.

𝑰𝒏𝒕𝒆𝒓𝒎𝒊𝒕𝒕𝒆𝒏𝒕 𝑾𝒂𝒕𝒆𝒓𝒊𝒏𝒈 We empower rice farmers to use controlled cycles of water supply instead of a continuous flooding of the paddy fields. Regulating water levels in wetlands prevents prolonged flooding or excessive drying, which disrupt wetland ecosystems

𝑹𝒂𝒕𝒐𝒐𝒏 𝑹𝒊𝒄𝒆 𝑪𝒖𝒍𝒕𝒊𝒗𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏 This refers to the practice of re-growing rice from the stubble of a previous harvest. By minimizing soil disturbance, ratooning helps preserve wetland ecosystems, reduces emissions from soil, and lowers water usage
