Really lovely to visit St Gwladys Bargoed Bargoed School this morning with Caerphilly Mayor Cllr Dawn Ingram-Jones and Caerphilly Cabinet Member for Education Cllr Carol Andrews. Such fantastic enthusiasm on show from all children and staff throughout the visit.

It was a privilege to be part of this afternoon’s poignant and powerful event marking the 65th anniversary of the Six Bells mining disaster, in which 45 men and boys lost their lives. It was an honour to speak with the survivors who were in attendance today.

The Six Bells Mining Disaster's 65th anniversary was a stark reminder of the risks miners took to power our country. Labour has boosted the pensions of Mineworkers Pension Scheme members, now we must look to give fair play to those in the British Coal Staff Superannuation Scheme.
