Proud sponsor for the 2nd year in a row of Black Women In Data is on IG Summit! 2 years ago Dr. Brandeis Marshall (she/her) is on LinkedIn told me she had an idea, & then went & did the work. 💯 I’m so damn proud of this woman, and having experienced it in person, #BWD23 is unlike any conference I’ve ever been to! 🖤💰

Humility and confidence are not mutually exclusive and great leaders have both. Humility to know what they don’t know and confidence to ask questions and rely on others. Humility to know that they’re not perfect and confidence to admit their mistakes and to grow and improve.

For years I’ve been interviewing data annotation workers who are the lifeblood of the AI industry. For years I’ve heard the same story: the platforms they work for wield total power, leaving them precarious & vulnerable to exploitation. A horrible example of this just happened 1/

Silicon Valley loves to say data annotation work provides economic opportunity. The tragic thing is it really could if platforms were designed to uplift workers by providing them jobs with regular working hours, security, and stable incomes. The reality is so far from this. 4/
