I was absolutely chuffed to see the Booted Eagle at Marazion on Sunday afternoon. A cracking bird to connect with in Cornwall and amazing that it has remained undetected somewhere in the UK since October 2024 when it was first observed over Kenidjack valley.

Back from a couple of days in Cornwall & processed the pics. The main focus was the Booted Eagle at Marazion that I saw on both days. These pics are from 13th January 2025. 😀

I have one space available on the 2025 Challenger Expedition to the continental shelf edge. The 2024 trip yielded Madeiran storm-petrels, barolo shearwaters, a fea’s-type petrel, & more, in British waters. Sept 14-22 from Plymouth. Email [email protected] if interested.

The 1w Booted Eagle performed well in front of a few us this morning from the A394 roadbridge (over the railway line) at Marazion this morning. Even perching in front of us. It’s Cornwall’s third record and the same as the bird seen back in Oct 10th and 11th at St Just.

Already a great trip home with good Booted Eagle views, but delighted to also pick up this Pacific Diver at Boat Cove this afternoon. The famous Mounts Bay adult last seen ~4 years ago đŸ€”. Pics by raoul Humphreys

Chucked together some thoughts as to whether the current Pacific Diver relates to the 2007-2020 bird. Available here cbwps.org.uk/resources/arti
 and comments welcome!

Kuwait Day 4 : We spent the morning searching for the Thick-billed Warbler but no joy. The afternoon turned into a wader fest with Red-wattled Lapwing (lifer) , 8 White-tailed Lapwing and a much wanted Tibetan Sandplover . Amongst huge flocks that I could spend days watching !

These shots don’t look like much, but it’s a Black-capped Petrel which passed Ponta do Sol, Santo Antão, Cape Verde this eve. One of three sightings, but the only one which gave prolonged views. A super seawatch with Josh Jones where we had 448 Fea’s Petrels and 24 Boyd’s Shears.

Day 5 in Kuwait: managed to get much better views of Grey-headed Swamphen amongst an amazing variety of birds at Jahra Pools. We then went to the Iraq border to see Afghan Babbler , before leaving the best to last , 113 Crab Plover in Kuwait Bay, dream birds for me!

An amazing gathering of waders at high tide in Kuwait today . Thousands of birds gave close views . Species we dream about finding in the uk are common here, so it is a great learning exercise. Highlight had to be the Crab Plovers though 😍
