This is an astonishing piece of very high tech anatomy! Anna, Alexey, and co were able to separate and identify every cell in the chordotonal organ of an *extremely tiny* wasp! O_O!! Awesome!

Shazam! Here is the reveal: ant pupae secrete their molting fluid, and larvae and adults consume it. This creates interdependencies across different ant developmental stages. Thanks also to all our collaborators at the various resource centers Rockefeller University!

パラポネラは働きアリが頻繁に産卵します。 この卵は無精卵ですので、孵化して育てられればオスになりますが、巣の中に女王アリがいる場合は、この卵は育てられることはありません。 ↓自分で産んだ大切な卵をどうするのでしょうか? blog.livedoor.jp/antroom/archiv…

It is official, Ant-y'all! First round of the "needs better study" poll: Larvae are on top with 36.6%, just barely eeking out a victory over Adults (35.2%). Apparently, pupae remain least interesting—for now!

Maria Sibylla Merian’s book on the Insects of Suriname was a game changer - a book about the insects, their life cycles, their host plants, what they feed on & what feeds on them - 60 species & over 90 animals were studied. She was a #trailblazer & so had many critics 🧵Pt.1

AntFolk poll round 2: What stage of the ant life cycle deserves more attention? (Note: Poll limited to 4 choices. Also, "larvae" won by a little more than a percentage point in the prior iteration.)

イレコダニの仲間たち 丸いフォルムでゆっくり動く「 ボク わるいダニじゃないよ」という感じでかわいい。 脚を引っ込めてまるくなることができるとても良いダニ。
