A very fun (and busy!) day yesterday for Doors Open Days showcasing the awesome Remote3 programme we run with Science and Technology Facilities Council & Boulby Underground Laboratory! We helped lots of children learn to program the little LEGO rovers to detect water on “Mars!” Remote3 Physics Astro @ Edin Particle Physics Experiment - PPE - Edinburgh

#ThrowbackThursday to last year's MINAR, when we were visited by The University of Manchester's CRADLE group... 🤖⚙️ The team were testing #robotics destined for use in extreme environments - putting them through their paces in the hot, dusty, dark tunnels around our lab! 🔦🪨 #Science

On October 31st, Boulby Underground Laboratory is hosting an exciting family-friendly #DarkMatterDay event! Meet the team and lean how they are searching for dark matter and take part in a fun Halloween activity. 🎃Learn more here: interactions.org/node/54521

Since 2015, BGS & Boulby Underground Laboratory have been researching underground hydrogen & compressed air energy storage in halite (rock salt). Many gasses could be stored in man-made caverns underground for long duration energy storage allowing us to balance our renewable energy system.

Going 1.1km underground: great to host John Sarrao, director of the SLAC Linear Accelerator Centre, at Science and Technology Facilities Council Boulby Underground Laboratory in North Yorkshire. We saw the impressive progress with excavation of a space for a very large new facility. Talked about Dark Matter and much more...

Last week, we had the pleasure of hosting a visit from IFLScience - a popular internet publication covering nature, science, technology, and more 🧪🪐 We’ll be sharing any content that gets published, so keep an eye out for some familiar faces from the Boulby team! 👀

Going underground (again). On Tuesday we were delighted to host members of the UK Research and Innovation Board at Science and Technology Facilities Council Boulby Underground Laboratory in the North East of England. Discussed the search for Dark Matter and the wide range of multi-disciplinary science opportunities at 1.1 km underground.

Congratulations to Beth, one of Boulby’s Lab Laboratory Technician Apprentices, who was just awarded the Outreach Award at the Science and Technology Facilities Council Apprentice Awards evening! 🥳🎉
