College Football Playoffs. 2 teams was never enough. 4 teams left no room for era in the regular season. 12 seems appropriate, but a lot of worthy teams will be left out unfortunately. Maybe we go 14 total teams like the NFL with the top 2 securing a bye instead of 4.
