NOAA is reportedly on the DOGE chopping block. The National Weather Service, which is part of NOAA, provides life saving weather forecasting in the US. A study found that for every $1 invested in NWS, it produces $73 in value to Americans. Again, this isn't about efficiency.

The administration is firing as many ppl as it thinks it can legally fire without any consideration of how important their jobs are or how much $ will actually be saved. Disease control, cancer research... these indiscriminate cuts will affect ALL of us npr.org/sections/shots…

Thousands of workers were fired from CDC, NIH, & other agencies, even if they had excellent performance reviews. These are people with critical jobs like monitoring disease outbreaks or developing cancer drugs. Their salaries are a miniscule % of the budget. This makes no sense.

Finally, someone is reporting on how funding of new NIH grants is effectively frozen due to an administrative block 👇 Grants already submitted cannot be reviewed, and grants already reviewed with excellent scores cannot be funded. This is the opposite of "efficiency".

From the other site. It's harder to see the impact here since so many scientists fled, but the NIH cuts are having a real impact. Whole labs are shutting down, careers are ending. Pediatric cancer research ffs.

Many grants like this were just terminated. These are researchers actively developing cures that would likely save thousands of lives. Terminating the research makes absolutely no sense unless your goal is to have more people get sick and die.

WTF Bank of America closed my employee’s account without any notice and won’t let her access her own money and won’t provide help in person or over the phone other than saying they are “investigating”. This is her only account and she literally can’t pay bills or buy things!!

BOA reps on X will only help ppl with X accounts and not any other means even though I DMed her email. My employee has already called BOA directly and gone there in person and they still won't let her access her own money. This has to be illegal - anyone know how we can escalate?
