Santa Clara High Tech Law Institute is again winning the hearts and minds of USNews law-ranking voters across the country.

My paper with Christian Helmers collecting and analyzing publicly available data on 4G/5G SEP licenses is now available in final published form, via Science and Technology Law Review (STLR) (journals.library.columbia.edu/index.php/stlr…) and SSRN (papers.ssrn.com/sol3/papers.cf…).

We are very excited to announce that Santa Clara University School of Law (Santa Clara Law) will be hosting the 21st Annual #WIPIP 2024!!! #WIPIP2024 For more info: law.scu.edu/wipip2024

.Christian Helmers and I are pleased to share that our paper empirically analyzing the relationship between patent "hold-out" and licensing frictions is now forthcoming in IJIO. A near-final version is available on SSRN here: papers.ssrn.com/sol3/papers.cf…

Two of my recent papers with Christian Helmers were published this month: 'Patent Validity & Litigation: Evidence from IPR' in JLE vol 66 (journals.uchicago.edu/doi/10.1086/72…) & 'Patent Hold-out and Licensing Frictions: Evidence from Litigation of SEPs' in IJIO vol 89 (sciencedirect.com/science/articl…)

My paper with Christian Helmers examining Judge Albright's impact on US patent lit is now published in JLEO. From 9/18 to 6/21, Albright shifted 880 cases from other courts to Waco & induced 460 add'l suits that otherwise wouldn't have been filed in any court. academic.oup.com/jleo/advance-a…

My paper with Christian Helmers and Yassine Lefouili examining the frequency and determinants of opportunistic conduct (i.e., hold up) by SEP enforcers was published last week by the American Law & Economics Review academic.oup.com/aler/advance-a…

Happy to report that our study (w/ Christian Helmers) of SEP assertion by NPEs is forthcoming in Oxford Economic Papers. We compare opportunism across NPE & op-co cases & find NPEs more likely to leverage declaration process, market opaqueness, & supply chain: papers.ssrn.com/sol3/papers.cf…

In a newly revised paper now forthcoming in IRLE, Christian Helmers and I assess whether 4 of the most significant US patent system reforms of the last 20 years (eBay, PTAB, Alice, and TC Heartland) had a measurable impact on innovation: papers.ssrn.com/sol3/papers.cf…
