"If I let one do it they'll all want to do it." Sound familiar? Is so tell them what will happen before it happens. #teachers #classroommanagement #thatonekid #ClassroomTips #StudentBehavior

For kids who like to argue, use questions instead of statements. I said sit down. No! Yes! No! You are in a power struggle. Try, where are you supposed to be right now? Or is there a reason you are choosing to stand? It is hard to argue a question! #thatonekid #ChildBehavior

There is a big difference between being firm and mean. It is possible to be one without the other. Kids respect firm. They might not like it, but they respect it. Mean often makes them want to quit! #teachers #coaches #thatonekid #PositiveDiscipline #RespectfulTeaching

As the school year ends, some students, even ones we have a great relationship with, may start acting out. Remember, for some students, the summer break can lead to food insecurity, safety issues, and other unmet needs. Don't take it personally! Anyone noticing this? #teachers

To reach #kids others don’t we have to do things others willing won’t. Lots of people ask, “when a suspended student comes back, what do I do / say?” My answer, “What did you do while he / she was gone?” #thatonekid #teachers

Avoid power struggles with students. The "hit & run" is one of my favorites. Hard to have an argument with only yourself around. Say what you need to say and move! #thatonekid #TeachingTips #ClassroomManagement #TeachingStrategies #EducationCommunity

For your most challenging students, success has to come first. Lack of success can lead to disruptive behavior. Sometimes we have to push them into this cycle. Thoughts? #thatonekid #TeachingStrategies #StudentEngagement #StudentSuccess #teachers

My friends wife teaches in NY. Her last day is June 27th! Some schools head back to school in late July! Any other states ending this late? #summerbreak #teachers

Successfully motivating students are driven by these 5 tenants: 1. Emphasizing effort 2. Creating confidence and hope 3. Building relationships 4. Making lessons relevant to their world 5. Igniting enthusiasm for learning What would you add? #thatonekid #studentmotivation

One of my favorite strategies to help "that kid" change their behavior. What is your favorite strategy? #thatonekid #teachers #schoolleaders

If a student struggles with reading, we provide extra support & practice to improve their reading level/ability. If a student struggles on the playground with behavior, we do the opposite. We remove that student from the playground. Both issues require extra practice & support.

I have had the good fortune to watch what good teachers do to build relationships with their students. Here are some takeaways: 1. Care more about students than content 2. Let students know you-warts and all 3. Connect to at least one interest of each student #GoodTeaching

Criticism without compliment isn't criticism, it is abuse! If you are always criticizing a student then they are going to stop listening to you altogether. #thatonekid

I like to use the word "expectations" instead of "rules" in my classroom. Maybe because rules are made to be broken. Expectations are: -specific & measurable -tell exactly what a student should do -tie directly to a classroom value -teacher and class created -reflect action

Classroom policies without flexibility are destined to fail. Does your school have "Fun Friday" or a version of it? #teachers #SchoolCulture #ClassroomManagement #TeachingStrategies #TeacherCommunity #EdChat
