I know having a #flood plan sounds so boring. But having something written down when that #floodwarning comes, & your mind turns to spaghetti is a game changer! Go for it. There's a template on my website floodMary.com

For a fraction of the £ farmers could deliver carbon capture tomorrow in biomass & soils - but the sustainable farming budget is set to be cut.

There are no "natural disasters." We cut down mangroves, filled in swamps, destroyed the green spaces and nature that would absorb floods and wave energy. We built homes in vulnerable areas and did little to help people think of the consequences.

It was obvious to any informed person, with their eyes open, that the Biodiversity Net Gain policy, would be abused to justify the destruction of important habitat. It is a horrible legalistic contrivance, and it means nothing. theguardian.com/environment/20… 1/4

I am a biodiversity expert & I agree with everything said here. Biodiversity Net Gain is a lie but most people without enough ecological knowledge cannot see this & are fooled by the lie. Fungi & invertebrates are where enormous biodiversity of species are found & are ignored.

This assumes our digitised records are accurate. My own certainly aren’t, and there is zero recourse to have them corrected. Enormous can of worms. theguardian.com/society/2024/o…

OBR says productivity still being dragged down by Brexit: "The effects of subdued investment, the energy price shock, and Brexit compound the ongoing weakness." OBR still expects Brexit to cause a 15% drop in "trade intensity" in the long term

It's crucial that new homes are not built in areas that are already impacted by flooding, or in locations with a significant risk of future flooding. We believe it’s essential for policymakers to implement strong measures to ensure developers do not build in flood-prone areas.

As this Royal Town Planning Institute report shows, many new housing estates are built without good public transport. The results? - Estates dominated by cars - Jams on surrounding roads - Non-drivers left behind Public transport should be central to new developments. theguardian.com/politics/2024/…
