Day 2 of our outdoor first aid course, where we have to deal with “real life” scenarios including cardiac arrest, stroke, falling from height, hypothermia, diabetes, seizures, burns … and the absolute corker - the severed hand (all acting) 🫣 University of Brighton Uni of Brighton - Geography & Environment

The Southwick Reef project has begun its first stages, with 27 species identified in an initial survey including Sea Anemones, Crabs, and Shellfish, such as the Beadlet Anemone (Actinia equina)! First day of our Geography / Environment field trip to Sicily! 💛♥️ Thanks to expert vulcanologist Boris Behncke for showing us around. Got to hear about Etna's distinct geological profile, and why volcanoes aren't just hazards but also lifegivers for local environments.


Etna's hardened lava rock is incredibly hard (check out Boris Behncke hammering away at it) and pretty inhospitable to life. But on Etna we can also find black volcanic sand that's very rich in minerals and a superb fertiliser 🌱
