So far found 5 waxcap species in Cae Gwiar, a formerly species-poor pasture 🏴 Gardd Cymru 🌿 Garden of Wales which had green hay applied in 2019 and is now #wildflower rich. I never found any waxcaps there before 2021. Most photogenic was this glutinous #waxcap (Hygrocybe glutinipes) #fungi

Glistening like a emerald, this tiny parrot waxcap #fungus has appeared inside a rotting tree trunk in the Fairy Wood 🏴 Gardd Cymru 🌿 Garden of Wales The odd thing is that it usually grows on underfertilised lawns, meadows and pastures. Thanks to Emma Williams for the ID

We are looking for 2 trainees to join our Glaswelltiroedd Gwydn (Resilient Grasslands) project in Wales. You'll develop skills and experience for a career in conservation. No experience is necessary – just enthusiasm and eagerness to work in conservation! plantlife.org.uk/careers/projec…

Proud to have been at the House of Commons yesterday for the opening ceremony of Cheryl Beer's inspirational sound project Can y Coed. This was the first ever exhibition there by a female artist from Wales. The first! Thanks to Nia Griffith MP for being such a great host.

I've been given this 1963 Observer's Book of Lichen by a man in his 80s. It came with this photo he took of one of the authors on a field trip in the mid 60s. Can anyone tell me which author? K Kershaw or K Alvin? #lichen The British Lichen Society

I've not seen TheGoblet (Pseudoclitocybe cyathiformis) before. Nice name. Found on Cae Waxcap 🏴 Gardd Cymru 🌿 Garden of Wales - a grazed pasture of international importance for grassland #fungi. These were frozen solid in the ground frost.

Really good analysis Will Hayward Thank you. Subsidies should be for public good not for overgrazing, so the move to SMS is to be applauded. Also worth saying - restoring species rich grassland could sequest as much atmospheric carbon as planting trees, and do it much quicker

A perfect example of the role BBC Radio 3 can have in highlighting and inspiring the musically curious to listen to an unknown composer - Elizabeth Maconchy - and performers - Bloomsbury Quartet I strongly recommend a listen. #stringquartet bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/m0…

My last day working 🏴 Gardd Cymru 🌿 Garden of Wales - marked by this amazing fly agaric cake made by mycologist Emily Ivens #fungi Tasted lovely it did.

#DandelionChallenge if a honeybee could ingest the average daily nectar output of a #DANDELION head it could fly 89 metres, to know more of these flower numbers come to 🏴 Gardd Cymru 🌿 Garden of Wales Addysg/Education National Botanic Garden of Wales and do the unique, one and only #BeeMiles program in #Wales

The earliest #waxcap sighting for me - a patch small but distinctive fruiting bodies of Meadow Waxcap #fungi (Hygrocybe pratensis) on edge of orchid rich hay meadow in Cwmdu, Carmarthenshire. You've been telling me to look early Emma Emma Williams and it's finally paid off

I'll be leading a #fungi walk at the National Botanic Garden of Wales 🏴 Gardd Cymru 🌿 Garden of Wales at 10.30am on October 3rd to celebrate UK Fungus Day I chat about this and the joys of getting into fungi on this latest Flowerpot podcast. I hope you enjoy it. open.spotify.com/episode/7lMjKU…
