Green steel announcement wave keeps rolling... Next from 🇫🇷: ArcelorMittal and Air Liquide signed MoU to build commercial-scale DRI with submerged arc furnace in Dunkerque. By 2030, this will allow to cut this site's CO2 emissions by ~3 Mt CO2. corporate.arcelormittal.com/media/news-art…

Australia's rain will become India's #coal pain, as floods shut Newcastle port, the world's largest coal-export harbour. #India has been buying increasing volumes of #Australia coal, and this means higher prices, tighter supplies. #ausbiz #energy reuters.com/article/idUSL4…

Hadn't seen a chart like this before: Here are CCS projects completed since 2000 (in blue) vs CCS projects proposed but never finished (in gray). Lots of failures, obviously. This paper asks what explains the successes to see if they can be replicated: iopscience.iop.org/article/10.108…

The UK is falling behind Europe in the race to clean #steel. Great new ECIU report building on excellent analysis by Bellona Europa tracking growing numbers of H2-based steel pilots in Europe vs. 0 in the UK.

Honestly, I wonder how much more productive and less stressed people would be if the MS Outlook search function wasn't so terrible.

There’s a lovely upward spiral in steel decarbonization ambition happening. 2025 is the earliest anyone has declared they would be selling H2 DRI EAF steel 👏😄. I suspect Teresa Ribera has something to do with this. Hilton Trollip Bryce McCall Marta Torres IDDRI

We can delay the decision on nuclear, while we should in the meantime make use of our renewable resources to expand capacity much faster until a time like small modular nuclear reactors might be commercially viable that could compliment our power system businesslive.co.za/bd/national/20…

$8.5bn Just Energy Transition Partnership with South Africa: a first of its kind agreement between a coal-intensive developing country and a group of donor governments to work together and fund a just transition away from coal. This is a big deal.

South Africa needs a modernised electricity system that fosters inclusive economic growth, meets minimum emissions standards and aims for the bottom end of the NDC, enabling cheaper cost of capital and access to trade. We need bold ambition. #JustEnergyTransition

Another headline would be electricity market regulators globally have *a couple of years* to rejig their energy & capacity valuation mechanisms to send the right signals for more demand response as well as short through long term storage & transmission, or there_will_be_chaos_🤣
