🇹🇷🇸🇾 Could the devastation following #Turkey-#Syria earthquakes lead to "a shift in thinking, away from trivial diplomatic disputes"? Matthew Bryza argues for putting diplomatic issues to one side, on this special edition of the #F24Debate ⤵️

Lovely move by Greece to rally aid for Turkiye following devastating twin earthquakes. May this be the start of something akin to the warming in Greece-Turkey relations after another pair of earthquakes in summer 1999, one in Turkey and one in Greece. bit.ly/40M4Ft5

As US public opinion shifts & as Ukraine increasingly & mistakenly becomes a divide in GOP Presidential primary & as current Ukraine Congressional funding ‘times out’ & some GOP House members reduce future 🇺🇦 $$$ support; UK & EU need to repeat strong case to US Congress & public

As Rishi tackles major issues at home, it would assist the ‘International common good’ if Boris & Blair took to Route 66 plus to remake case why US Congress & US public support for 🇺🇦 is in US national interest - not just Europe. There are also NATO credibility interests at stake

#CharlesMichel's balanced, sober, and insightful press statement on #Pashinyan-#Aliyev meeting he mediated suggests substantive progress toward a peace agreement despite high enduring tensions and occasional provocations, especially along Lachin Corridor: bit.ly/3rzl1YT

Extremely important statement by Spokesperson for President of the European Council Charles Michel on Armenia-Azerbaijan normalization. Michel has proven to be an honest, shrewd, and effective broker. He clearly sees hope for a peace treaty. europa.eu/!MnWGRR

Now the next warning… Though Baku can theoretically do without a peace agreement now it has Karabakh, it is in Armenia's interest to sign a peace treaty this year. Any later will only lead to the collapse of Armenia. Europe and the US will not save it. Russia may well punish it.

BREAKING!!! A MAJOR development in Armenia-Azerbaijan talks with a JOINT statement from Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev’s office. This is what we needed right now to believe an agreement could still come. #Karabakh azertag.az/xeber/azerbayc…

As repeatedly noted, the end of Armenian troops and a separatist political authority in Azerbaijan's Karabakh region removed the last obstacle to the peace treaty sought by both Armenian Prime Minister Pashinyan and Azerbaijani President Aliyev. bit.ly/3NjNpX4

#Ukraine’s retooled defense industry could produce $18 billion in cheaper armaments this year but Kyiv could appropriate only $9 billion despite nearly 50% of state budget for defense. #NATO should fund Kyiv's purchase of armaments made in Ukraine. bit.ly/43sPUx6

My view in the FT: EU’s quest to banish natural gas eventually is undercutting investments required to secure gas supplies tomorrow. Clash of ideology and practicality.... ft.com/content/99772c… via @ft

Superb analysis by Glen Howard on the objectives of #Ukraine's incursion into #Russia, which may aim to threaten Russia's key logistics lines into Ukraine and be a more strategically consequential version of Prigozhin's misadventure of June 2023. glenhoward.substack.com/p/ukraines-kur…

The writing was on the wall for #Russia's invasions of #Ukraine when it invaded #Georgia in 2008, and even 18 months earlier during #Putin's speech at the February 2024 Munich Security Conference. It's beyond time to stop worrying about "provoking" Putin. youtube.com/watch?v=iKdD_A…

So pleased to have appeared on February 9, with my dear old friend from our Moscow days, Dan Hoffman, on Fox News Sunday, when we explored President Trump's approaches to Gaza, Panama, and Russia's war on Ukraine. foxnews.com/video/63685616…

(Beginning at around 33:00) I discuss President Trump’s ideas for a deal Zelensky can accept. This will initially involve economic pressure on Russia but exclude Ukraine’s NATO membership & near-term recovery of all its territory occupied by Russia. 📷youtube.com/watch?v=pDanM9…

#CNN's brilliant #NickPatonWalsh just made a rare mistake, claiming #Russia withdrew after its invasion of #Georgia in August 2008 to its prior positions, when in fact Russia still occupies the territory into which it invaded in #Georgia's #Abkhazia and #SouthOssetia.
