Agree with part of Steve Stivers op-ed in Columbus Dispatch. But we need more than reforms to property taxes. We need to rethink local government structure too. The cost of local gov, & thus the need for property taxes, is downstream of structure. dispatch.com/story/opinion/…

The push to protect Ohioans from the dark side of AI is understandable, BUT we must tread carefully. AI is at the forefront of the contest America confronts against China. Losing it means giving keys of power to the Chinese Communist Party. beaconjournal.com/story/opinion/…

This is necessary as a down payment on the sorts of larger local government reforms Ohio desperately needs to protect honest homeowners & to help Ohio become more competitive with southern & western states with far fewer layers of local taxing authorities. cleveland.com/news/2025/07/o…

This is too bad. Ohio needs extensive local government reform to protect homeowners & be more competitive. Those two additional override items, while not enough by themselves, are important steps towards that comprehensive reform.

Agree. The veto on #66 was positive. But a LOT more is needed. The effort to abolish property taxes is only going to increasingly gain steam & neither Columbus nor local government is ready for the implications of that.

A moving farewell to a giant of the conservative movement & the single most influential figure in ensuring think tanks were more than creators of reports gathering dust, but institutions that actively shape the public policy debate. State Policy Network spn.org/a-tribute-to-e…

Tomorrow this Governor Mike DeWine panel will first meet. Ohio needs a mix of short-term pain relief AND long-term structural reforms to solve the challenges of skyrocketing property taxes, pain for so many homeowners in the state, & local gov complexity. Time is of the essence.

Local government certainly needs a seat at the table on Governor Mike DeWine's property tax reform working group. BUT, as many observe in this Anna Staver piece in PlainDealer, so do taxpayers & policy experts. See The Buckeye Institute recommendations below. cleveland.com/news/2025/07/c…

This is some very important AI policy guidance released by Whitehouse.crypto today. Ohio lawmakers should read it before they do anything else to regulate AI. Not only do we need to stay on top of innovation for economic reasons, BUT security ones too. ai.gov/action-plan

A really good AEI Education piece on the need to improve the NAEP, The Nation's Report Card so we can understand where our education system really is instead of tell ourselves fantasies that make us feel better but don't give us the tools to target real challenges. aei.org/research-produ…

This is a critical deregulatory decision from Lee Zeldin U.S. EPA that could have huge positive implications for energy production & maintaining an innovative tech edge in global competition with competitors like China. nationalreview.com/2025/07/lee-ze…

This is a very complex issue that involves both legitimate market forces, likely some degree of regulatory capture, AND big tech changes. One thing is for sure, we need more supply AND behind the meter generation for big tech/data centers.

This is a great piece from Anna Staver in clevelanddotcom on the "Gordian Knot" that is Ohio's property tax challenge. The Buckeye Institute has a lot of ideas to untie this knot. cleveland.com/news/2025/08/w…
