"....Returning Steart to swampy wilderness was, in part, an acknowledgment that the overdevelopment of coastal land had made flooding more likely, not less..."

Good to spend today with Cambridge Masters in Conservation Leadership students from Bangladesh, South Korea, and the Philippines. Enjoyed showing them around RSPB Titchwell Marsh and #Snettisham reserves with #JeffKew. It's always good to share perspectives and show folk a few birds, too!

Grabbed a grey and damp 20 minutes at the Fisher Fleet in King's Lynn this afternoon. Tried some slow shutter speeds to create a bit of atmosphere in the picture. This is probably the best of an average bunch of images, work to do.

Popped down to the Fisher Fleet in King's Lynn where a scrum of Herring Gulls fought over scraps of discarded sea food. Used a slow shutter speed to blur the action and got lucky with one bird sitting still for an eighth of a second, plus a bit of tweaking on the laptop.

So - sandwiched now between Trump election. And coming COP global climate summit, a few thoughts on why liberal climate hysteria about Trump might not be where it’s at…

Have you heard of concerns expressed by HS2 about the obligations & responsibilities it has to comply with environmental laws & the protection of rare species? If you have, then you might like to know about Natural England’s response to the claims made. naturalengland.blog.gov.uk/2024/11/08/nat…

Pre work walk under a grey sky around Ken Hill Woods, autumn colours shining through the gloom and good bump into the free range pigs gorging on the Beech mast.

No2 son's 13th birthday. Started day early morning present opening, followed by 50 lengths at the Pool, and then a long day of meetings on the laptop, and now some music, a whisky and an easy read novel.

Busy weekend in no1 sons company. On Saturday, we travelled down to the Smoke to watch England play South Africa at Twickenham. Sunday was spent at Ipswich Rugby Club for an Eastern Counties Rugby tournament where he played for West Norfolk RUFC. Home now and slowly thawing out.

A lot could be said about today’s 'new milestones'. But there has been little focus on one major omission: the UK has no credible plan for how we will cope with extreme changes in the climate. That’s why I’m calling for an extra mission: a National Adaptation Plan A short 🧵

Disappointing rhetoric from Prime Minister Keir Starmer in The Times today attacking underfunded environmental regulators. Naysayers, blockers, 'held to ransom'? Vivid language, but these regulators can be the difference between restoring nature and destroying it.

Whilst I'm sad to cancel my last events of the year at Strumpshaw Fen (⛈️), this doesn't detract from how proud I am in raising c£2700 for RSPB in 2024 as a volunteer guided walk leader! It's a privilege sharing my passion with others for this wonderful place. 😄

It was good to grab an hour under a rare blue sky at Old Hunstanton this morning. Even better was to see the Glaucous Gull that has been feeding on a seal carcass there. Thanks to Dawn Balmer and Dave Nurney for helping me get on the bird.

I cannot believe that this insane proposal for a "Wash tidal barrage" is being considered It would be absolutely devastating for nature Any potential, naive investors should understand that it will be fiercely resisted by The Wildlife Trusts & many others newcivilengineer.com/latest/the-was…
