Steven Swinford We don't need confirmation that bureaucracy gobbles up patient-facing time. We also already know the 'positive deviants' around the NHS that have successfully overcome bureaucracy (eg Buurtzorg-inspired neighbourhood care). But a recent EU report found they face 250 barriers!

Steven Swinford The most useful work would be to strengthen all the solutions that overcome the barriers to removing bureaucracy and to improving care. As usual, the solution's out there, just not yet evenly distributed. Speak with Brendan Martin from Buurtzorg UK & Ireland.

‘Move primary care to a social first model rather than medical.’ Says Andy Burnham REFORM Alliance fringe #CPC23 ….it’s an important and necessary distinction, but let’s also move primary care to a #SocEnt model and ensure purpose and profits are also aligned to local need.

BetaCodex Network | since 2008 Perhaps the difference is that Jos de Blok and his friends didn’t just say ‘What if?’. They also said ‘Let’s do it.’ And now Buurtzorg has 15,000 self-managing professionals and has revolutionised community-based health and social care in the Netherlands.

Buurtzorg Britain & Ireland What a day it was too. So much collaboration, inspiration and aspiration, friendships formed and renewed, a joy for all of us that could be there online or in person. I'd love to do it all again.

This report shows how decades of underfunding social care has⬆️pressure on the NHS, more people are getting stuck in hospital or ending up there unnecessarily and fewer people can get care. And care staff are overworked, poorly paid and many leave their jobs.

ADASS (@1adass) 's Twitter Profile Photo

This problem won’t be cured by treating the symptoms. The Government needs to shift focus and funding to preventing people needing hospital or residential care in the first place, by providing more good quality care and support at home.

ADASS (@1adass) 's Twitter Profile Photo

That needs investment in social care and community healthcare, which will reduce pressure on more expensive acute NHS services. We need a long-term fully funded plan for social care and a commitment to change the picture the CQC has painted in this report.
