Released this week, Canada 2021 Census main population figures. Graph shows % chg for 2011-2016 & 2016-2021. NL pop grew 1% from 2011-2016 but declined by 1.8% from 2016-2021. NL only province with ⬇️for 2016-2021. NWT also⬇️ 2016-2021 (1.7%). #nlpoli CARE

Population growth was lower rural than in non-rural areas for Canada overall (6.3% in non-rural, 0.4% in rural, 5.2% overall). In NL, overall change in population of -1.8% between 2016-2021 was comprised of +1.6% in non-rural but, -6.4% in rural. #nlpoli CARE Department of Economics

Labour Force Survey estimates for March 2022 out today. NL employment down compared to Feb-2022 by 2,900 persons; unemployment up 1,100. Unemployment rate in Mar-2022 was 12.9% in NL compared to 5.3% for Canada as a whole. #nlpoli #nlecon Department of Economics CARE
