Spoonbills have been very active and could be seen from bridge screen throughout the day. The flock of Knot are still hanging about on the main scrape. Forty avocet chicks on main scrape. Garganey spotted from bridge screen. #sightings

Lots of Black-tailed Skimmers around this morning at the rapidly drying margins of Neumann's Flash marburypatch. An obvious attraction to a welcome Hobby, my first of the year on patch.

Nature at risk ⚠️ UK Government promised to protect nature. But it’s breaking that promise. Demand they scrap the part of the new Planning and Infrastructure Bill which threatens important wildlife protections. Take action 👇 action.wildlifetrusts.org/page/171483/ac…

Horrified to arrive at Carr Lane Pools, Cheshire and find most of it razed, and drainage channels being cut into both of the pools, despite breeding Avocets, Lapwing, plus many more species. Presume nothing will be done as usual, despite it being by an SSSI Environment Agency

A smart Curlew Sandpiper at the end of Within Way on #patchbirding Thankfully the local ‘guardian’ can’t drain the Mersey as well 🤬

Dawn #patchbirding Wigeon, 3 Avocet, 5 LRP, Whimbrel, Turnstone, Curlew Sand, 6 Sanderling, 280 Ringo, 130 Dunlin, RN Parakeet, 3 Cetti’s, 7 Yellow Wag, 2 Bullfinch. Thankfully the Avocet fledgling survived, but sadly none of the Lapwing or LRP made it 😞

The #patchbirding Curlew Sandpiper performed superbly on the rising tide. One of my favourite #waders that we get on patch #curlywurly

Excited this morn to finally get a photograph of the calling Cuckoo. It was very distant but for once out in the open. Unlike the Cuckoo the Sedge Warblers pose perfectly for photos! Also Reed Warblers, Yellowhammers, Lapwings, Ravens & Sparrowhawk being dive bombed by Swallows!

Swifts and Swallows swooping in the wind and the Spoonbills carrying on building their nest. Lots of lovely Avocet babies on the scrape. Happy Bank Holiday #sightings
