Michael notes that there are 27 manga publishers in North America. He wonders which pubs will still be around after three years. Dark Horse remains consistent in their approach of how many titles they license and publish each year, they don't go on a licensing rampage.

Michael says what's working for Dark Horse is the hardcover deluxe editions. Print still outsells digital by 28 times. Feels that manga on a phone dissappears from the mind after you put it away, but physical occupies space, so the quality of the books should be best possible.

Ed says that the challenges for Denpa continue to be a limited number of places people can get their books. Not as many bookstores besides B&N and indie bookshops. It's a challenge to do outreach with vendors. Can't be everywhere at all times.

Denpa says opportunities for them include publishing the work of artists like Mitsuru Adachi. They are continuing to look for new talents and faces in the US manga market, including artists who've been in the biz for 40 years.

Ed says that there is so much good content out there that doesn't make it over for a variety of reasons. So despite concerns about competition over licenses, they are still pursuing those opportunities.

Sullivan promises they aren't going anywhere, Kodama's books are gorgeous. They plan to be here in 5, 10, 15 years. Ed jokes that Baki is so long it will take them that long to publish it all. XD

Morgan notes that most of the manga retailers pivoted to Simon & Schuester and Penguin Random House already when Diamond was having problems in the pandemic. Any pubs having issues with Diamond since their recent problems have also transitioned to S&S and PRH.

Ben notes it's difficult to get into comic shops if they don't have the history of door to door salesmanship like S&S and PRH.
