Hello from the eye of Hurricane #Helene!👋 Check out the view from NOAA WP-3D Orion #NOAA43 "Miss Piggy" from this morning's mission. Flights collect data to refine intensity forecasts and support hurricane research. Check National Hurricane Center and hurricanes.gov for the latest

#Helene is strengthening steadily this morning, with the eye becoming more apparent on visible satellite. Convection has been firing consistently in the N eyewall, but not wrapping around totally, maybe due to dry air intrusions. Only about 12h to landfall, so we'll see if it

.NOAA Atlantic Oceanographic and Meteorological Lab hurricane researchers & NOAA Aircraft Operations Center are flying into #HurricaneMilton to deploy instruments, like this dropsonde, that collect critical data to improve National Hurricane Center forecasts. *For info on Hurricane Milton visit hurricanes.gov/#milton & noaa.gov/milton

Hurricane models performed well with #Milton. The 15-h forecast from HRD/AOML/NOAA's HAFS-B correctly captured: an eyewall open to the south(west), the large stratiform rainshield to the north, supercell-producing rainbands over FL, and even the weaker rainband down to Key West.

Latest NMME forecast seems to indicate a mixed bag for the Atlantic hurricane season. Keeps La Niña or cool neutral, which would be favorable. Atlantic is generally warm, but the subtropics are warmer than the deep tropics, which would probably cause some issues with stability.

Coral restoration programs are expanding to revive coral populations and ecosystem services, but local and global stressors such as coral disease and water pollution still threaten coral survival. Recent runs of the CFS climate model have backed off any suggestion of an El Niño this summer, and are leaning towards ENSO staying neutral, probably cool neutral. As a result, it's showing low shear across much of the Atlantic and Caribbean. While other factors will likely slow

All 4 of our NCEP operational hurricane models (HAFS-A, HAFS-B, HWRF, HMON) strengthen #Erick significantly as it heads towards the coast of #Mexico. still some spread as to where exactly it will landfall along the coast, but it could be a pretty significant impact.
