Spores of powdery mildew on a barley leaf. This parasitic fungus spreads over the leaf surface extracting nutrients from the barley plant. It then forms these upright chains of spores that readily spread the infection. 📷 our UQ facility CMM@UQ #microscopymondays #NCRISimpact

The green blob is a protein produced by a bacterium. Because it is toxic to some insects it has potential as a bioinsecticide to protect food crops. The 'wallpaper' shows steps in the 3-D reconstruction of the protein's structure. TEM 📷 CMM@UQ #microscopymondays #cryoEM
