The local news, print and radio are all featuring this story today. People in the North East are talking about these badly needed upgrades. It's time to get them out of Transport Scotland "consideration" and into development! Fiona Hyslop

The newly reopened Northumberland line already has outperformed it's estimated patronage by 500% with only half of its stations open! At what point do we consider our methods for appraisal unfit for their purpose? Every rail project in Scotland too has outperformed expectations!

Once again a new UK rail project has massively outperformed it's predicted passenger numbers. People want rail connections, and if you build it, they will come! aberdeenlive.news/news/aberdeen-…

"The railway we propose would connect the industrial heartland of Buchan with the wider rail network. Long trains carrying the bounty of Buchan’s produce will...open new economic opportunities and drive investment into the region for a prosperous future.” pressandjournal.co.uk/fp/news/transp…

Scrapping Peak Fares last year resulted in a 7% increase in patronage. A permenant end to peak time could result in year on year growth in passenger numbers on the Scottish rail network. Great if you are connected, it's time to extend the East Coast Line northwards to Buchan!

"But the standout suggestion from the hundreds of replies we received was loud and clear - the people want the railways ripped up in the 60s and 70s restored." The people of the North East overwhelmingly want to see Buchan reconnected Fiona Hyslop aberdeenlive.news/news/aberdeen-…

One year on, and there is no doubt that reconnecting Levenmouth has been a success! Now is the time to ask where's next. Fraserburgh and Peterhead are the largest towns, the furthest from a railway station anywhere in the UK - an area with a larger population than Stirling!

This one locomotive is doing the work of 11 HGVs! Buchan has a bounty ready for rail, from beer to grain, fish to CO2. Reconnecting the NE will be transformational. Freeing up space on busy roads, making journeys safer, faster and more reliable, while creating space for growth!

This Friday we spoke at a excellent event organised by AGCC. Speakers included Network Rail Scotland, ScotRail, London North Eastern Railway, and Caledonian Sleeper. Thanks to all for a fantastic discussion, a clear passion in the room for the potential rail can unlock in the North East.

With the Tall Ship Races in Aberdeen, Brewdog's AGM in Ellon, and Scottish Week in Peterhead, over half a million visitors will be travelling across Buchan today! A new rail link would facilitate safe, fast and green travel for our tourism sector, helping it to thrive!

Every train into Aberdeen has been full and standing for hours now. Unfortunately, 80,000 residents living north of the city have no rail connection to make their way in for the festival. It's time to extend the East Coast Main Line to Fraserburgh and Peterhead! Fiona Hyslop
