East TN Literacy Conference hosted by the Carson-Newman Education Department was immensely successful with more than 150 educators in attendance. Missy Testerman, 2024 National Teacher of the Year, reminded us that kids today need our help in unlocking the gift of literacy.

At the East Tennessee Literacy Conference hosted by the Carson-Newman Education Department Shannon Hitchcock drew correlations between art, music, and literacy while Susan Frizell led attendees through a jungle exploration of literacy.

At the East Tennessee Literacy Conference hosted by the Carson-Newman Education Department attendees enjoyed the musical talents of Carson-Newman University A Cappella Choir.

At the East TN Literacy Conference hosted by the Carson-Newman Education Department, practitioners, students, TDOE, & admin led sessions about creating a school community culture for literacy, Freedom Schools, literacy for MLs, STEM & literacy, & evaluating literacy teams.

Chair of Education and Dean of Online Learning, Dr. Cindy Lang, Associate Professor of Education, Dr. Brian Sohn, and some committed education majors served at Emerald Academy on C-N Serve Day.

In the series, Our People, we recognize Mrs. Susan Price, Director of Field Experiences & Asst Professor of Education. Mrs. Price earned an Education Specialist from @lmu_edu, Reading Specialist credentials & MAT from Carson-Newman University , & Bachelor of Science from ETSU.

Students in Dr. Booker’s EDUC 203/558 deign and create 3D models of Bronfenbrenner’s Ecological Theory using random household items as metaphors for reciprocal influencers on their roles as first year teachers.

In the series, Our People, we recognize Dr. Rodney Russell. Dr. Russell was recently appointed Associate Provost Carson-Newman University. Prior to this appointment, he served as Dir of Ed Leadership, & Assoc Professor of Ed. Dr. Russell earned his Ed.D. from Trevecca Nazarene University
