On this day, in 1875, Captain Matthew Webb started his Channel swim diving from the Admiralty Pier in Dover a little before 1pm. 21 hours and 45 minutes later he arrived in Calais, France. Do come and meet us at the iconic Webb statue today @ 1pm to honour the great man himself.
