Since 1967, the Chicago Sun-Times has had two lead film critics: Roger Ebert and yours truly. There was no pressure in succeeding Roger, because there was zero chance I could match his knowledge, talent and passion. But I AM proud of the effort I put in to honor his legacy.

I have had more than 16,000 bylines in the Sun-Times. More than 10,000 of those pieces were reviews. Proud of what I accomplished there, as an editorial assistant, a news reporter, a columnist and a critic.

I'm taking a buyout at the Sun-Times. After 38 years at the paper, my last day will be Friday. Thanks to everyone — colleagues, competitors, editors ... especially Sun-Times readers — who made it such a great ride. I leave w/ gratitude, great memories & a lot of gas in the tank.
