Evening of May 8 1945, the Liberation of Terezín ghetto began with Russian soldiers & tanks entering through the iron gates. Survivors said the Russian soldiers gave out chocolate, cigarettes & treats. Thinking of the journeys survivors would then go on. What did Liberation mean?

When teaching about the Nazi book burnings, which began #OTD 1933. I use this drawing by Ella Liebermann, who survived Auschwitz in part due to her art skills. After Liberation in 1945, she began to create a series of drawings, On the Edge of the Abyss. Art below, Book Burning.

#OTD remembering Sir Nicholas Winton's birthday, known for organising the rescue of 669 mostly Jewish children from Nazi-occupied Czechoslovakia during the 9 months before war broke out 1939. I was fortunate to collaborate with his daughter Barbara Winton to create these collages

Anne Frank was born 96 years ago on June 12, 1929. Anne was given a diary for her 13th birthday. Anne's legacy of her diary continues to educate today, & it will continue to educate our future generations. One of my student's creative responses & Children of Peace. #AnneFrank
