Biggest barrier to authentic athletic skill development (particularly ⚾️)… Is that we’ve cultivated a training environment where athletes are more concerned with whether they “moved” in a way that is coach-approved.. or social media presentable.. than if they executed the task.

It is painful to me every time I see a hitter rehearsing his swing in the open air, against nothing… Thinking he has to achieve the “perfect” barrel turn, hand/shoulder/hip move, etc… or else he can’t hit. 😔 A generation of self-seeking hitting coaches have created this.

Hitting a baseball is… The picking up, interacting with, & appropriately responding to INFORMATION. Anything else we give attention to is a distraction from engaging with that information. Accepting this concept will create much more adaptable & creative hitters in the box.

Like the work done by many movement scientists throughout generations… Biomechanics analysis will continue to reveal that athletes execute skills more effectively utilizing variability + adaptability rather than conforming to a prescribed “mechanics” model determined by a coach.

This is fantastic. 💪🏼 Unfortunately, many times, we as coaches are the problem… Baseball coaches -> get the heck out of the way. It doesn’t have to look the way we want it to!

“Repeatability isn’t a thing…” 🔥🔥 Here we also got into Bernstein’s original biomechanics testing on the movements of blacksmiths that proved this in the 1920s… Maybe baseball development can begin moving in the right direction?? 🤞🏼🤞🏼

I would contend to ditch the internal cues - not just in-game, but ALL THE TIME. When we promote a separate attentional focus in training versus in-game, we really confuse athletes what they should be using when adversity comes. External or Holistic cues -> 100% of the time. 👊🏼

This👇🏼👇🏼👇🏼 x1,000,000!!! It’s the most toxic thing in baseball that needs to die. ☠️ “Mechanics” are not the answer! But, there are too many coaches who make money off of “mechanics” as their entire brand…

Just your friendly reminder that the most essential aspects to hitting precision are: • Recognition • Timing (multi-checkpoints) Also, a reminder that the object in the picture below👇🏼 does absolutely nothing to improve either of these things…👆🏼 Prioritize accordingly.

Working on “the swing” is for insecure coaches and insecure hitters. ❌ It promotes ego & anxiety. Working on hitting MANY different pitches, in ALL different zones, in hostile training environments… ✅ Well, that is for FEARLESS & confident hitters who you don’t mess with!

There hasn’t been a more toxic, anxiety-inducing, POISONOUS word that has ubiquitously + negatively dominated baseball development conversation than this word: 👇🏼👇🏼 “Mechanics” More players of all ages would have a better chance at success if usage of it ended. #killmechanics

1️⃣ How do coaches explain hitters/pitchers who have “mechanics” they don’t approve of - yet they are successful anyway? 2️⃣ How do coaches explain the many hitters/pitchers that they curate with their specific preferred “mechanics” pattern - yet they aren’t good? #killmechanics

If this is a clear distinct factor with pitchers who control the stimulus of the pitcher/batter interaction… Imagine how much MORE variability exists within & across hitters, responding to high unpredictability. It makes the seeking of “mechanics” checkpoints seem ridiculous.

How does an offense create the most RUNS??? ✔️OPS, ✔️SLG, ✔️Isolated Power, ✔️OBP *NOT* from Batting Average & getting Hits. -> Intelligently build offensive attack systems accordingly. 📊 -> And then tailor team training emphasis with those appropriate goals in mind.🏅
