Small businesses are the backbone of our communities. This #SmallBusinessSaturday, I hope that you join me in supporting the local small businesses in #MD02 and choose to shop small!

On this day sixty-nine years ago, the Montgomery Bus Boycott began. This peaceful protest was one of the foundational events of the Civil Rights Movement and played a vital role in the integration of public buses.

159 years ago today, slavery was abolished in the United States. We are reminded of our continued work to build a nation that protects the rights of all its people.

On Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day, we remember and mourn the 2,403 servicemembers and civilians who died. 83 years later, we will never forget those who made the ultimate sacrifice that day.

On December 12th, communities across the country come together to celebrate The Feast of Our Lady Guadalupe, a symbol of perseverance and resilience. Today, we embrace her profound impact on the Mexican-American community and wish all who observe a day of peace and devotion.

Today marks the second anniversary of the Respect for Marriage Act being signed into law. This law enshrined justice, dignity and respect for all Americans regardless of who you love.

This award means the world to me, especially as I approach my retirement. National security has been my priority since I came to Congress in 2003, and it has been an honor to support our Army, its soldiers and their families every year since.

Thrilled (and relieved) to hear our short-term funding bill will cover the cost of the Key Bridge, which was absolutely nonnegotiable for those of us who represent the people and businesses whose lives have been upended since its collapse. Team Maryland was heard.

Also worth highlighting: our stop-gap funding bill includes reimbursement for the victims of SNAP theft thru Sept ‘28 - a huge win that required some grit. Reimbursement (set to expire w/o action) has helped more than 300k victimized households this year alone.

MD loses $2 BILLION if Congress doesn't pass the #BIPARTISAN disaster relief package. We had a deal that's now threatened thanks to the dangerous demands of an unelected multibillionaire who doesn’t have to worry what happens to his home if disaster strikes. Let’s pass this NOW.

Cast my final vote in public office to keep the government open, of all things. We need to get back to fulfilling our basic duty of passing our annual budget bills instead of these 11th hour stop-gaps that satisfy no one. I’ll miss doing my part, but I sure won’t miss the chaos.

Hope President Carter is finally resting in what he prized above all: peace. He was a true public servant, dedicated to uplifting the least among us around the globe. His humility is something all those in elected office should seek to emulate.
