#FieldPhotoFriday This station CZN near Cabazon needed some maintenance a bit ago to fix a latency issue and add resiliency to the region, plus some preventative maintenance. Looks like they had a good day of weather and a visit from a hungry goat!

As we’ve mentioned before, the Seismo Lab is actually home to 2 seismic networks, the SCSN and CSN. The Community Seismic Network (CSN) is a real-time IoT seismic network consisting of 1400 accelerometer sensors specifically deployed in buildings, ranging from schools to

#FieldPhotoFriday Remote sites like Station BAR, near Barrett Dam, offer unique seismic insight thanks to their rugged locations. Using nearby infrastructure helps us reach places we otherwise couldn’t—here’s a look over the years.

Starting next week on June 16, a major collaborative effort is launching at UC San Diego’s Englekirk Structural Engineering Center (NHERI@UCSD) to test how a full-scale 10-story cold-formed steel building responds to extreme shaking and live fire. This project brings together

Meet Taiyi Wang, a Seismo Lab Post-Doc who works on understanding how faults mechanically interact with fluids and how evolving crustal properties impact earthquake cycles, while using machine learning to tackle computational bottlenecks in the so called earthquake cycle

#FieldPhotoFriday That view! One of our stations near Hemet, POB2, sits at a great vantage point above the city, in a pretty seismically active area. POB2 is an important part of the network, supplying earthquake data on a constant basis, which is why the recent field work

Even the smaller earthquakes can make the news if enough people feel them. At 12:22 pm PDT a M2.7 occurred near Sherman Oaks. People right on top of it (in Universal City) felt it pretty well, while others a very short distance away likely did not! Even for these small quakes, a

June EQ history: A day that reminded Socal residents they live in EQ country was 6/28 when they were awoken by the M7.3 Landers event at 4:57am followed by M6.3 Big Bear 3 hours later. The Landers EQ was also one of the first eqs to be studied with satellite images using InSAR.
