We Marine Conservation Society were delighted to work with watershed_investigations on this important issue, through our chemicals expert Francesca Ginley. We are calling for these persistent & damaging chemicals to be banned as a group. To find out more about why, please see: mcsuk.org/ocean-emergenc… ⚠️🌊⚠️

Did you see the news? Ministers have today approved new laws for a Deposit Return Scheme in England & Northen Ireland 🙌 It's a fantastic win for our seas and we’re excited to support governments and industry in launching these schemes as soon as possible independent.co.uk/climate-change…

Our Head of Policy & Conservation, Calum Duncan shares, “Seeing humpback whales in UK seas is incredibly special. We’re thrilled to see these majestic creatures returning to our shores, likely to feed, as they migrate between tropical breeding and northerly feeding grounds...

Our thoughts first and foremost are with all those affected by the oil tanker and cargo ship collision. The Humber Estuary and The Wash are home to thousands of seabirds, making this potential oil spill and chemical leak a major threat to one of our most important ecosystems.

A thriving blue economy needs healthy seas which means that important areas for nature & ecosystem services need proper protection. I highlighted to Rural Affairs and Islands Committee that 200 of 233 MPAs are still awaiting management measures. scottishparliament.tv/meeting/rural-…

It’s #VolunteersWeek2025! A chance to celebrate the amazing @Seasearch volunteers who have contributed to the project. The #CitizenScience dataset of #UKmarinelife gathered by them has made a big difference to what we know about the underwater environment around the UK.

The four UK governments launched updated Part One of UK Marine Strategy. At best we are standing still on ocean protection & at worst going backward. In 2018, only 4 of 15 indicators of Good Environmental Status were met. In 2024 this dropped to just 2. mcsuk.org/news/the-gover…

Do you know how the #ocean is protecting us against #ClimateChange? - It captures & stores around 25% of the CO2 we release - Absorbs 90% of the heat produced by emissions - Prevents & reduces coastal erosion - Helps us generate renewable energy Read more: mcsuk.org/ocean-emergenc…
