Okay: here’s everything you need to know about the new eruption in Iceland, including what is certain, what is uncertain, and all that jazz. (I’ve got a few weeks of book leave left, but couldn’t leave y’all hanging.) THREAD 🧵🌋 credit: Veðurstofa Íslands / Icelandic Met Office

Stunning images to be waking up to (Pic from Fréttastofa RÚV webcam). The eruption is reported to be 10x bigger than 2021 and 3x than 2022. Communities to the north, including Reykjavik, were warned about potential gas pollution during the night🧵

First look at Copernicus EU #Sentinel5P #TROPOMI satellite SO₂ data for the #eruption at Litli-Hrútur on #Iceland's #Reykjanes peninsula, showing the #volcanic gas plume drifting SW off the coast and out over the North Atlantic. Those watching the #tremor graph from NASPMON station faf might be worried the eruption has ended - instead, it has had to be rescued from the path of the lava! 🌋 Hopefully Cambridge Volcano Seismology station odf (safely up on the ridge at Oddafell) will be connected to Veðurstofa Íslands / Icelandic Met Office soon!

Cambridge Volcano Seismology station "odf" / Oddafell is now online streaming to Veðurstofa Íslands / Icelandic Met Office to help monitor the evolution of the #eruption on the #Reykjanes Peninsula 🌋🇮🇸 Background station map from Egill Árni Gudnason Drumplot: hraun.vedur.is/ja/drumplot/dr… Tremor plot: hraun.vedur.is/ja/oroi/odf
