Today's deal is a positive first step in rebuilding our relationship with Europe. The government must now face down the naysayers and dinosaurs in Reform and the Conservative Party and be more ambitious to go further and secure the best deal for our country.

Labour’s agreement is a positive first step. But we must be far more ambitious. Unlocking a full new partnership with Europe could see a ten-fold increase in economic benefits. Liberal Democrats will continue to press for a full deal, including a bespoke UK-EU customs union.
