HS/Juco players: An MLB scout has never told you “You have to go D1 to get drafted”. Maybe your friends dad,or an uninformed coach,but not a scout. BUT, you DO have to get on the field to get drafted. Don’t let status and a Twitter announcement keep you from a great D2, NAIA, etc

Stye but because he just found out his grandmother passed away. I told him don’t be ridiculous, family comes first. His response was “Coach I’m not letting my teammates down for anything”. That young man showed up on time and balled out. This is why I love what I do! Mike Rucci

My first coaching interview for a JUCO position in the mid 90’s. Head guys asks “what is the most important thing for an assistant coach to do?” As a 22 year old coach I was thinking about throwing good BP or hitting fungo. He simply replied “Loyalty” that has stuck w me.

Why Juco? 100% scholarship(most cases) vs 25-35% scholarship. 2 seasons(fall and spring), immediate playing time(most cases), smaller classes, less restrictions on coaches time spent with players, draft options open, learn to grind.
