NEW: a common response to reports of hospitals struggling this winter is "it’s no different to a bad flu season!" I’ve tracked down historical data on flu ICU admissions, including winter 2017-18, a record high. Here’s how England’s Covid winter compares to a bad flu season 📹

Would you look at that. No active long-term care COVID-19 outbreaks in Vancouver Coastal Health. It has been a long 11 months since we declared the first LTC outbreak, and mourned the first COVID-19 death in Canada. “Reason to celebrate”, yes, and we must keep going. #cdnhealth

Question med Twitter: does polypharmacy of medications with weak association with drug-induced Parkinsonism work like anticholinergic burden (anticholinergicscales.es)? Is EPS burden calculator a thing?

If you need a smile: This woman, 82, dresses to the nines each Sunday for virtual church. Her selfies have become legendary. "Since March 29, 2020, she has taken photos of herself from her living room in 53 different color-coordinated outfits"!!!washingtonpost.com/lifestyle/2021…

In anticipation, I'd like to make a few points already. 1. A proportion of breakthrough infections are expected. Otherwise, vaccine trials would all have reported 100% efficacy. 3/

"Ten scientific reasons in support of airborne transmission of SARS-CoV-2." New paper in The Lancet by Trisha Greenhalgh, Kimberly Prather, Ph.D., @Rschooley, Prof. Jose-Luis Jimenez, @dfisman and me! We argue the case that it's not just that SARS-CoV-2 is airborne, but that it's predominantly airborne.

I received a DM about outbreak declaration in long-term care homes, and thought this might be interesting to some. Provincial LTC protocols I have read (i.e. all of them) have an approach to sub-/suspect-/non-outbreak COVID episodes that don’t meet outbreak criteria. Let’s go! 1/

Big thank you to Prairie Mountain Health for an amazingly efficient experience at the Brandon Super Site vaccination clinic this morning! Booking was easy and I was through the clinic stations without delay. Each and every person I interacted with was warm and welcoming.
