Joined leaders at the #EnergySecurity Summit in London today to align energy w/ economic security for all. Stressed that #renewables will boost self-sufficiency, shifting dependencies from global to regional levels & making countries less susceptible to geopolitical disruptions.

Clean energy keeps gaining ground. In 2024, solar, wind, and hydro now make up over 30% of global electricity. Solar’s growing fast, thanks to lower costs and better tech. A big step forward — but still a long way to go for a fully decarbonised grid.

The future of energy is not only about how we produce but also about how we use it. As the UK moves toward net zero, smart tariffs and tech help us shift habits to match renewables. Flexibility is key—for the grid and for us all. Great piece in FT 👇 ft.com/content/2749d3…

Two things I like about this chart 1) as always, lovely to see it when so much of our electricity is being produced by renewables (and so little from burning stuff) 2) we’re currently producing more renewable electricity than we actually need, meaning we get to export some

It was an honor to meet Arthur Hayes. He is incredibly smart and down to earth. His work inspired me to build the matching engine behind the largest trading volume in the world.

A HISTORIC MILESTONE: For the first time, solar power generated more electricity globally than nuclear, making it the world’s 4th largest power source. In just 5 years, solar output nearly tripled—from 79 TWh (Apr 2020) to 233 TWh (Apr 2025). The energy transition is speeding up.

From 2000 to 2023, global renewables soared from 0.8 to 3.9 TW. China led with 1,817% increase—more than Africa, Europe, and North America combined. US (+322%) and India (+604%) also saw major growth. Renewables = solar, wind, hydro (excl. pumped), bio, geothermal, marine.

#China is building renewable energy projects all arcoss the country! According to recent data, China's installed capacity of #wind and #photovoltaic power reached almost 1.5 billion kilowatts at the end of March 2025, exceeding that of thermal power for the first time in history.

“What about China?” For years this was the go to excuse for people not to support action on climate change. Sure China still uses a lot of coal but that appears to have peaked and when it comes to installing renewable energy tech China leads globally hands down.

Nowhere else on earth.☝️China has built the world's largest renewable energy system, with a capacity of 2.09 billion kW as of May, more than doubling in just 5 years. Result: 1/3 of China's electricity is green now. This is absolutely a huge feat.
