I’m pretty sure if Hank Aaron had suffered a career ending injury to start the ‘74 season before hitting #715, none of us would have ever heard of the #SIjinx as #Topps would have owned the jinx leaderboard in perpetuity! 😬 #BoldMove

In 1968, this #Tigers hurler famously grooved a pitch (3 actually) to #TheMick for a farewell HR of sorts (#535). But 7 yrs earlier, this #Orioles pitcher promised Roger Maris nothing but fastballs in game 154 to give Rog a shot at Babe’s record. Maris got 1 HR in 2 ABs vs Milt.

On 4/22/70, this #Mets ace had 9 Ks & yielded just 1 run on 2 hits thru 5.2 IP. That’s a heckuva game! But #TomTerrific wasn’t done. He faced 10 more #Padres batters & NONE of them put a ball in play!🔥 K’d the last 10 batters he faced for a total of 19 & 2-1 CG victory. 🐐

I’m pretty sure Timothy Jenkins approves of my #ImmaculateGrid today given my #Brewers (nee #Pilots) column. 😁 We owe such a debt to Jim Bouton for his great peek into their solitary ‘69 season.

This 2x All⭐️ catcher had 2 All⭐️ level cards from #Topps. I never knew much about Ellie when I collected, but his ‘73 & ‘76 cards were favs for their striking images. #ToolsofIgnorance

If I could have 2 former pitchers over for a drink & conversation, it’d be hard to do better than these 2 I used in today’s #ImmaculateGrid. Bouton’s wit & psychology shine thru in #BallFour. Ol’ Bobo went 3rd person way before it was cool…wish there was more to read on Newsom.

A GREAT day yesterday w/ my Dad watching Birmingham Barons at #RickwoodClassic! Oldest park in US (1910) - a great place to watch a game, surrounded by history! HOFer Jim Kaat was the honored guest & looked great. My 80 yr old father saw 86 yr old Kaat pitch w/ AA #Lookouts in ‘59.

I ❤️ this pic. 81 yrs ago today, #Yogi provided cover from an LCSS for troops landing on Utah Beach. Gil Hodges was a Marine in Pacific theatre & fought on Okinawa. Two #WorldSeries rivals who served in fierce combat, but the gentleness of their character shines thru. 🫡 🇺🇸🙏🏻

You couldn’t find two nicer players than Hank Aaron & Dale Murphy, but both #Braves sluggers are very “negative” here.😉 I’ve added the ‘69 Haney as another example - love a LH catcher! Do you know of any other reversed cards? Post them here.

As a collector, I like to have at least 1 of every vintage yr & card type, even if some aren’t cards. Got this ‘52 Decal of #Dodgers HOFer Gil Hodges recently. Wanted to get 1 w/ the envelope/sleeve still on it. I didn’t realize how large these were! A great add-on to my Gil PC.

It’s no shock that this #HOF hurler famous for his control led his league 3x in SO/BB ratio (3.54, 2.95 & 6.16!) during his 12 yr career as a starter. But once moved to #As closer, his SO/BB ratio jumped to RIDICULOUS levels peaking in ‘89 & ‘90 at 18.33 & 18.25 respectively!🤯🔥

This lefty played on 7 straight postseason teams (‘72-78), but his contributions differed wildly. Ken avg’d 19+ Ws w/ 2.92 ERA & won 3 WS 👑 w/ #As (6-1 w/ 2.30 ERA in 13 postseason apps). But in parts of 3 yrs w/ #Yankees was 12-10 w/ 4.64 ERA & 0 postseason apps. #Taleof2Cities

The #Yankees didn’t have nearly as much success with Frank “Home Run” Baker III.😉 Incidentally, his 1 career HR (justifying the singular nickname much moreso than his predecessor) in 334 career PAs came in ‘73 w/ the #Orioles. 😞 (Granted, Frank leads me by 334 MLB PAs & 1 HR!)

As a 7 yr old 1st year collector, pulling this Rollie Fingers card was VERY memorable…not because I knew the reliever was a future HOFer, or ANYTHING about him for that matter. But I loved me some #LaffALympics! 😁🤷‍♂️ #ReallyRottens #HobbyMemories

3 of my Dad’s fav players-thankful we can still discuss them.🙏🏻 Growing up in AL, he had several choices for home state hero & chose this #Giants icon. In 1955 this rookie #Indians ace captured 11 yr old Dad’s ❤️. Dad watched Gordy mash for hometown #MobileBears. #HappyFathersDay
