Black History Month. John Clough was born in Jamaica and came to the UK with a Scottish doctor. In 1887 he became the first Black bus driver of a London Motorbus. Dame Jocelyn Barrow was the first black woman to be governor of the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC).

Harriet Tubman Day 10th March Born into slavery in March 1822 she escaped from slavery in the South to become a leading abolitionist before the American Civil War. She led upward of 300 enslaved people along the Underground Railroad from the American South to Canada to freedom.

St Patricks Day 17th March St Patrick is the patron saint of Ireland. He was a 5th Century missionary who brought Christianity to Ireland. He was born in Roman Britain later captured and taken to Ireland as a slave. He was later freed. He returned to England and became a monk.

St George’s Day April 23rd St George is the patron saint of England and April 23rd marks the day of his death. He is believed to have been a Roman soldier under Emperor Diocletion. He became a Christian martyr when he refused to renounce his faith and was executed for it.
