On this day in 1959, four African American students, Ronald Deskins, Michael Jones, Lance Newman, and Gloria Thompson, were admitted to Stratford Junior High School.  Stratford Junior High School in Arlington, Virginia was the first public school in Virginia to desegregate.

In Virginia Beach today with VCTM at the annual conference! While in “VaBeach”, I stopped by the school I started my teaching career Landstown HS! Fun factiod, the Landstown Principal Paula Johnson and I taught next door to each other 20 years ago!

It was amazing to engage with math leaders around the Commonweath at the Annual Conference of VCTM! And a plus was I got to see friends, like Dr. Darwin (Van) Mills, Ed.D., Dr. Deb Crawford, & Dr. Ronald White.

This week I attended #DataSciEdCon25 hosted by the amazing Deb Crawford & Padhu Seshaiyer at George Mason University! Data Science education in the Commonwealth is growing thoughtfully and with people serious about engagement in the field for all students!
