Beauty of academics: Attending a conference about IBS in historical Palazzo Re Enzo in the heart of Bologna, meeting a bersagliere with my friend Bruno Chumpitazi, chatting with #LucadiMotenzemolo (CEO of Ferrari few years ago) and visiting the Barolo and Barbaresco region in Piemonte.

For me, when your disclosure slide shows 4 NIH grants and no industry support, it is more like bragging than a conflict of interest....

People have strong passions about several things in life: politics, sport teams, food, etc, but nothing comes close to the conviction that physicians have about how to display trends of lab results over time: left to right or right to left. And there is only one correct way!

Tell me you are in Australia without telling me you are there. Very environmentally friendly (no plastic bags exist), huge fans of amber fluid (free beer when I checked in hotel and on planes), great vineyards (behind the OH-IO), vast Australian rugby stadia (go Port Adelaide!)

Thank you #AGW24 and Dr. Nikhil Thapar for inviting me to Australia and giving me the chance to experience some of its beauty. The most environmentally sound country, extraordinarily friendly people, reasonably priced, and so many majestic natural beauties. Will be back.

Besides the unique natural beauties, in Australia there are also so many wonderful man-made attractions. And Sydney is a jewel. Random things I loved: pay when you order food (no taxes or tip), public wifi in entire cities, can carry water through security, and caffè Di Lorenzo!

Sometimes you have what seems to be a perfect Clinic session: you connect with the families and the patients, you are able to help them, and they seem grateful. Time flies, you have fun, and you remember why you always wanted to become a doctor. I am thankful for such days.

Things that terrify me: letter from IRS, ED calling "you remember the patient you saw?", my wife adding "wax paper" to grocery list. I got parchment paper, proud of my achievement. Shockingly, it is not the same thing. To this day, I have not achieved an errorless grocery trip.

Back from an exhilarating 3-day trip in Uruguay under the guidance of THE Miguel Saps. Loved everything about the country and the people. Appreciated the cuisine (chivito, asado, tannat, mate), discounts for foreigners, no fees to park, natural beauties, and incredible company.

I love potatoes more than any other food. For the past yr I have tried to come up with my top 10 potatoes dishes. Keep coming back to mashed potatoes as the top, especially as Italian "gatto' di patate", creamy mash with bread crust, ham, mozzarella, pepper. What's your favorite?

Watched A Completely Unknown. Mad respect for actors and singers Chalamet and Barbaro. Had forgotten how much I enjoyed Bob Dylan, Sean Baez, Bob Seger and songs of that era. A bit before my adolescence, but I grew up with the myth of American peace and freedom singers of the 60s
