Some kind of compromise on a probationary period was, I think, inevitable. This now leaves scope for measuring the labour market effects of a shift from the current 2yr period. UK employers to retain right to place new hires on 6-month probation via Financial Times on.ft.com/3TBqV6P

It was a real pleasure to join Unite Scotland at #UniteSPC24 today to talk about our work at @WorkerSupportC & the issues faced by migrant workers. Great to meet Billy from Show Racism the Red Card 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 & Susan Matthews & to hear from delegates about work to challenge racism across Scotland.

Really looking forward to joining Amnistie internationale Canada Francophone and colleagues today to talk about our experiences at @WorkerSupportC in the UK with our sectoral work permit, as Canada considers reform to its tied visa system.

Brilliant piece by Valeria Ragni, Centre Manager at @WorkerSupportC published this week as part of our openDemocracy series all about the UK Seasonal Worker visa and risks of exploitation to the workers on it.

Just out! In our openDemocracy series, a brilliant article by margarita permonaite on barriers to worker representation on the Seasonal Worker visa. Margarita compares her experiences with those of current workers & talks about her work to build worker power. opendemocracy.net/en/beyond-traf…

Really love that margarita permonaite is the 1st person I know of to compare their own experiences of the visa scheme before Brexit with their expertise of working to support those on the visa scheme after Brexit. This is a really key step towards understanding risks of exploitation.

Great article by Eve Livingston on non-payment of wages of seasonal agricultural workers feat @WorkerSupportC data & work from 2024. In 2025 we will work for: 🍓 Clear payslips setting out hours & times worked 🍓 Workers to be paid for the hours worked. Simply: "Make Work Pay"

So important to have been part of this at this time, & for Kevin (chosen pseudonym) to have generously shared his experiences as an agricultural worker in Scotland on the Seasonal Worker visa & his analysis of the problems with the UK's approach to temporary labour migration.
