Changes to the cryosphere are having significant social & environmental impacts, with consequences from local to global scales. A reminder that we'll be hosting a session all about this at European Geosciences Union, and welcome submissions from a wide range of perspectives & disciplines.

Our new preprint (and the first of my PhD!) is now open for discussion in The Cryosphere ❄️. We produced the first large-scale inventory of supraglacial channels in an alpine environment and provide insight into meltwater pathways and channel distribution. doi.org/10.5194/egusph…

Hugely relieved to have finished the 70km Winter Spine Sprint. ❄️🌨️☃️ Easily one of the hardest things I've ever done. The snow underfoot was unrelenting, often knee deep, and worse if you stepped off the path. An experience to remember, but definitely type 2 fun! 🤣 Sleep time!

Dog cuddles feel a world apart from Saturday when I was wading through snow in the dark on the Spine Sprint. On Sunday I was exhausted, by Monday I was excited about having done it and wishing I was still on the Pennine Way. Today I'm thinking about next year but glad to be warm!

The thing about type 2 fun is it's very addictive! I love following the Spine Race, so completing the Spine Sprint in difficult wintry conditions only left me wanting more. I can't wait to step it up a notch & take to the start line of the Spine Challenger South in January 2026!

Irresponsible, selfish and exactly the sort of behaviour we need to avoid in order to tackle climate warning. Yesterday was the first ever World Day for Glaciers in the International Year of Glacier Preservation. Maybe this shouldn't get airtime BBC News (UK)? bbc.com/news/articles/…
