At #MIDSA2025, Ministers from across Southern Africa renewed their commitment to strengthen regional migration governance, underscoring that effective management relies on cooperation, dialogue, and shared solutions to drive growth and unity across the region.

The 25th Migration Dialogue for Southern Africa marked 25 years of partnership between IOM, SADC and its Member States, working together to advance safe, regular and dignified migration. IOM remains committed to supporting SADC in ensuring migration is a choice, not a necessity.

Honoured to join Ugochi Daniels in a meeting with H.E. Prime Minister Abdoulkader Kamil Mohamed in Djibouti. Discussions focused on migration management, climate resilience, and community support. Djibouti plays a key role along the Eastern Route, fostering dignity and opportunity.

Great to meet IOM Djibouti teams at Lake Assal and Ali-Sabieh, Djibouti. Their dedication to tracking movements and assisting people on the move ensures every person is counted, enabling timely, data-driven, and life-saving humanitarian responses.

At the Ethiopia–Djibouti border, I met migrants walking for days in search of safety and opportunity. Their stories remind us why strengthening border management and creating options at home remain essential to ensure migration happens safely and with dignity.
