Our #renalpath / kidney bx service has been rapidly growing. This is the first time that we will have 3 renal pathologists. Apply below to join Kammi Henriksen and me

Until recently, I had not considered the possibility of 2 diagnoses. Perhaps this is how we should diagnose kidney biopsies with this IF staining pattern.

Nephrologists will now request LMD/MS for all tissue negative results for MN, which is >$1000 and only done at Mayo and Arkana If PLA2R+ MN can still be associated with a malignancy, we should go back to working up every MN bx for secondary causes

Great to have Hayde Ramos visit us from Mexico and spend 3 months with our renal path service. Formed a great team with our fellow, Teo Feuerhake

I suspect that it's the alternative pathway of complement activity that enhances CKD progression and not the other way around as stated by the title, but perhaps there's some of both jci.org/articles/view/…

Nelson Leung shines a new spotlight on ATTR amyloidosis and the kidney I (and even Nelson) thought it doesn't affect the kidney, but this appears to be incorrect sciencedirect.com/science/articl…

Time to pass the baton after nearly 2 decades. Was a great privilege to lead our recruitment efforts during most of that time. Will be focusing on our busy clinical service next

Just to make it clear to people who don’t get the point. We shouldn’t be talking about or worrying about how to fund journals. We should be plotting how to get rid of them entirely.

Anthony Chang, MD (張賀文) Tipu Puri Wow! Quite a fascinating concept! I’ve wondered about this for CR1. The only site of CR1 expression is the podocyte. CR1 is potent regulator of CP and AP & is an immune adherence receptor but I couldn’t understand how it does this sitting on podocytes. pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/26260209/

Fascinated that prevalence of #SickleCell trait is ~13%, which is same as AA pts with 2 #APOL1 risk alleles. Had another pt with SC trait, APOL1 risk alleles, and #aHUS. SCT fends off malaria. APOL1 fends trypanosomiasis and #complement fends off all infections. #Hickamsdictum

My favorite study of all time. Packed full of data. Have read it 4 times and discovered something new each time. Buried within is an interesting / outlandish explanation for how the podocyte VEGF can reach the endothelial cell. Can you find it? jasn.asnjournals.org/content/16/5/1…
