📍HoliSoils Project 🇪🇺 WP5 experimental site in Romania (Dumbrăvița). Usual design (control, thinning & clear-cut) but very dense understory vegetation. The soil looks less compact (effect on microorganisms, microfauna, mesofauna?) and the macrofauna community seems very diverse!

📍Marseille, 4 juillet 19-21h IMBE

Very glad to have presented soil biodiversity, in forests and in the cities with Claire Ménival & Lola Czuckermand. We looked at what people thought were macrofauna: majority (ants & spiders) but also some funny answers (lichen, fish and champion organisms...!) IMBE

📢 #NewArticle 🤓 Excited to share the first baby of my thesis in Wiley Ecology & Evolution 📖 Find out how resource quality shapes carrying capacity and gain insight into unexpected foraging strategies of #Collembola 🚨 Check out the insights #OpenAccess 👉🏽dx.doi.org/10.1002/ece3.1…

How does oak deal with drought? Laoué et al. compared leaf physiological and physico-chemical trait responses of the tree under natural drought and partial rain exclusion in natura for 10 years 👉doi.org/10.1111/tpj.16… Justine Laoué Wiley Plant Science SEB @sebiology.bsky.social

Early morning at the WP4 HoliSoils Project 🇪🇺 study site, Saint Mitre-les-Remparts, where the harvesting of litterbags (+2 years, already!) and the measurement of soil respiration has begun. You can clearly see everything covered with pine litter from the year that has just fallen 🌲

Next week #BES2023 will see a whole host of talks and posters from projects associated with HoliSoils Project 🇪🇺! I'm first up on Wednesday at 4pm talking about our ongoing umbrella review looking at the impacts of precipitation changes on forest soils

Charlotte Biryol gave a nice talk on the impact of #thinning, understory #management and #drought on #nematode community in #Mediterranean #forest 🪱🌳💧 #BES2023

The preprint of our HoliSoils Project 🇪🇺 meta-analysis is now on @EcoEvoRxiv in which we show that the impacts of precipitation changes on soil and litter fauna abundance in forests depends on the magnitude of precipitation changes and body size. ecoevorxiv.org/repository/vie…

📣 A new #HoliSoils publication is out! Charlotte Biryol, Thierry Gauquelin, Virginie Baldy, Mathieu Santonja & colleagues studied the interactive effects of #soil moisture, air temperature & litter nutrient diversity on microbial communities! Read it ➡️ doi.org/10.1111/oik.10…

Our meta-analysis on the impacts of precipitation change on soil invertebrates in forests is out now in Global Change Biology! Headline: Abundance is reduced by drought and increased by increased rainfall, but this depends on the size of the organisms. onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10.11…

Very happy to talk about #soilbiodiversity in a kindergarten in Ville de Marseille with Lola Czuckermand and Salomé Coquin Observing #soilfauna, drawing them and painting their habitat! At the age of 5, 4 children already want to become #soil ecologists! The next generation is secured! 😎

On the creepy crawly critter beat as usual: my latest for NYT Climate is about the millions tiny soil creatures that help to lock away planet-warming carbon, and what'll happen to them. “Soil has been like a black box, and we’re now starting to open it.” nytimes.com/2024/05/24/cli…

Amazing to see our recent HoliSoils Project 🇪🇺 paper in Global Change Biology get a fantastic write-up in the The New York Times today! It was a completely unexpected, but lovely surprise. Thanks Sofia Quaglia for the great job! If you want more details on the study, find them here onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/abs/10.111…
