Dear Journals, Your biases against #qualitative research are showing again.... Please stop desk rejecting qual. work bc "the sample significantly limits the generalizability of your conclusions." Generalizability isn't our goal. Signed, a frustrated co-author. Academic Chatter™

If legacy admits are deemed Constitutional at universities, then admits based on being a descendant of slavery should be as well. Especially at universities such as UNC and Harvard that were financed by slave money and that prohibited descendants from enrolling.

It's time for my yearly thank you to all graduate departments that allow me to submit a recommendation letter without checking a bunch of boxes about what percentile the student is in in a bunch of categories.

I'll be giving a talk this Friday, Nov 11, "at" Caltech Chemistry & Chemical Engineering on mobility impairment in chemistry. It starts 12 Pacific/8pm London. The talk is virtual, on Zoom, and all are welcome. At its essence, this talk will be a practical guide for disabled chemists, supervisors, and allies.

Grades are so subjective. Rubrics are fine but my land I am tired of kids (and adults) thinking grades are more important than learning. It is wild and frustrating.

Biology professors: a question for your speculation/estimation: What percentage of US PUI assistant professorships in biology do not require a postdoctoral position, or routinely hire straight from grad schools? Please RT

Dear PhD students: Your PhD project isn't your opus. Just finish the damn thing. You'll do much better & more impt research later in your career. Most supervisors don't tell you this. Just make a contribution, get a few publications. That's it. Love ya. #AcademicTwitter

I'm quite emotional writing this. I'm so pleased to share that my class' average final ACS scores put them in the *80th percentile of the country* (compared to 43rd % last year). So I think we can call this zany experiment a resounding success!
