A group of Chemicals and Waste Youth Platform representatives from across the🌎 participate in #ICCM5. They stress that youth are particularly vulnerable to chemical exposure and they want to have a say. The platform gives voice📢 to youth on international processes addressing chemicals & waste


OK, let's imagine that the negotiations this week at #ICCM5, in Bonn🇩🇪, are successful. What would it actually mean? The Director of UN Environment Programme's Industry and Economy Division, Sheila Aggarwal-Khan, explains how a new framework on chemicals⚗️ and waste🚮 could affect our lives.

"We have developed a UN Common Approach on Pollution, through the United Nations Environment Management Group Environment Management Group. We hope it will be endorsed in October by heads of UN agencies, so it can be implemented to fight pollution," announced UN Environment Programme's Kakuko Yoshida, at the #ICCM5 Youth Forum.


"I grew up taking a bag to go shopping. There were no plastic bags. In 30 years, we have filled the planet with plastic. There are things, like single-use plastic bags, that we can live without," said @RolphPayet, Executive Secretary of The Basel, Rotterdam and Stockholm Conventions, at the #ICCM5 Youth Forum.


At the #ICCM5 Youth Forum on Chemicals Governance, Minamata Convention on Mercury's Irene Rizzo recalled the aim of the #MinamataConvention on Mercury to protect human health & environment — its text calling for a focus on vulnerable populations, especially women, children & future generations.


Youth don’t just want to be heard and engage politically. They want to "engage technically and scientifically," stressed Ulises Bobadilla y Jiménez, a Mexican representative of Chemicals and Waste Youth Platform, at #ICCM5. "Youth mainstraining is key to improving action on 🧪chemicals & 🗑️waste."



📢Minister SteffiLemke announces at #ICCM5 High-Level Segment that #Germany will provide 10 million Euros towards supporting the future framework for the sound management of #chemicals.


"I ask nations & their negotiators to take the last step. Grab that deal with both hands. And start to deliver on the vision of a planet free of harm from chemicals & waste, for a safe, healthy & sustainable future," says UN Environment Programme ED Inger Andersen at the #ICCM5 High Level Segment.
